    What to Expect

Less than 10 minutes from downtown Auckland you’ll launch from our iconic Fergs Kayaks base on the water’s edge at Okahu Bay.

Your paddling adventure to the North Shore takes around 45 minutes, first pulling in to the seaside village of Devonport. From there we paddle around North Head and make landfall at Cheltenham Beach.

Your guide will lead you on a summit hike up North Head (Maungauika), one of the oldest dormant volcanos in Auckland, taking in the fascinating history of this old Pā and coastal defense site.

At the peak, you will enjoy sweeping views of Auckland City, the inner harbour and some outlying islands of the Hauraki Gulf.

    Risk Disclosure

Undertaking activities in the outdoors has inherent risks associated. Fergs Kayaks understands these risks and has developed a robust health and safety management system that fully complies with the Adventure Activities Regulations and follows all industry good practice guidelines. This includes undertaking an annual audit from an external, third party provider.

It is not possible however to reduce the likelihood of incidents occurring completely and that there are hazards that could result in serious injury or death. These could include drowning in water activities and falling from height in climbing and abseiling related activities. Though serious weather and environmental warnings can indicate potential hazards, it is still challenging to foresee all unforeseen hazards. Fergs Kayaks is committed to operating within all known identified warning systems (weather, earthquake, volcanic and tsunami). Fergs Kayaks will follow their prescribed management strategies in determining if it is appropriate for sessions and activities to take place.
